Community Horizons is assisting a local father in finding the right person to come into the home and provide companionship and support for his 18‑year‑old non‑verbal autistic son. The family is seeking someone who is patient, reliable, and comfortable engaging with a young adult who communicates through non‑verbal methods.

Position Overview

The companion will support the son in his daily routine, encourage meaningful interaction, and help maintain a calm, structured environment. This role focuses on engagement, safety, and building rapport.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and positive interaction
• Support communication using non‑verbal cues
• Maintain a safe, predictable environment
• Encourage participation in preferred hobbies or sensory activities
• Follow family guidance and established routines

Ideal Candidate

• Experience with autism or non‑verbal individuals is helpful but not required
• Patient, calm, and consistent
• Comfortable learning the son’s communication style
• Reliable and able to work independently in a home setting

Schedule & Pay

• Tuesday after school 3pm to 7pm
• Saturdays 11am to 6pm
• Sunday possibly respite hours
• $16.32-$16.99/hour
